Cruise-a-Matic

That woman will sleep with you
bed you down,
put the smell in your nostrils
stomp you and dummy you in the ground,
inflate your body with rocks
roll you in cruise-a-matic
knot your eyes together with sleep...

It lasts a while, and your mind returns
but not with regrets,
nor problems old and leftover,
new business is right before you ...

Air fills your lungs, and satisfies,
a blood starved heart recovers,
and you might learn death stunts
are no longer scary.
... In her theft, your new life starts,
she beds you again if she's smart.

Patrick Darnell (1974)
